This is a message to the Chinese community in New Zealand from David Clark, Minister of Health
The Government is taking the coronavirus situation seriously and will do all it can to protect New Zealanders
We are working across government and with international partners, like the World Health Organisation, to ensure New Zealand is prepared
You will have heard that we have public health officials meeting flights from China at the border as a precautionary measure. They are there to actively look for signs of the novel coronavirus and provide advice, information and reassurance to passengers.
Public health advice remains the same – that people should continue to practice good hygiene and isolate themselves if they are unwell.
You will be aware that there are currently significant containment measures in place in Wuhan, the source of the coronavirus. Please be assured that New Zealand is not Wuhan. The risk of an outbreak in New Zealand is low, but the Ministry of Health is monitoring the situation closely.
